Her Comment

Hey Bloggers! This next post I thought I would do is talk a little bit about my passion and that is singing. I am a singer/songwriter and I am twelve years old. I have been singing since about the age of three. When I started singing, I would make up my own nursery rhymes or take an old nursery rhyme and put my own twist on them! But it was about at the age of ten, when I entered a local singing contest here in the Comox Valley called Valley Idol. I was one of the lucky winners that won that year at the age of ten, in 2009 and I am on the Season three Valley Idol CD. After winning Valley Idol, I felt like I had gained more confidence in myself. I started singing at local events and taking singing lessons with, Valley Idol founder, Susie Mcgregor and Andrew Lorimer. Then, at the age of eleven, I wrote, composed and recorded my first song called “Thinking of You”,which was inspired by and written for my Grandpa who passed away a year  before that. I continue to write songs to this day and play the guitar and piano. I have my own website:http://keisjacox.com and One day I would like to be a famous singer/songwriter!
Thanks for reading! If you would like, please leave a comment telling me what your passion is and what you would like to be when you grow up!

Hello Keisja ,
My name is Ashleigh Skelton. I am in a student at the University of South Alabama. My Professor Dr. Strange suggested that I look at your blog post. I am so happy that he did. You are such an amazing singer. I loved listing to your songs. I had no idea that you could also play the piano. My mother always encouraged me to never give up in something I believe in. So I hope that you continue to keep doing your singing because you have an amazing gift.

The author is Mary Osborn she wrote all the Magi Tree Houses. Its were they go on another mission to Tokyo. And they met a Gold Dragon. That reminds me of my brother acting like a Dragon. I would fake run away from him.

Hello my name is Ashleigh Skelton I am in Dr.Strange’s EDM310 class at the University of South Alabama. This blog also reminded me of myself when I was younger. My sister and I would always pretend that we were battling some monster or beast or traveling all over the world. Maybe next time when I read to the 3rd graders I could read this book to them. I’m sure that they would enjoy reading about a golden dragon.

Project #10 My PLN

So I looked into bough the symbaloo and the netvibes. I decided to just use the symbaloo's because it seemed to be a whole lot easier than netvibes.

I added a few essential items that I check almost all the time. Such as facebook, twitter, blogger and gmail. I also added a few other items to the cart like Discovery Channel, CNN, The Weather Channel and some other items as well.

I think that symbaloo is a great and extremely easy to access. When I first started PLN I had only a few tiles. I sure I will have it full before this semester is over.

The Networked Student.: By. Wend Dexter

At the end of The Network Student video there is a question asked. " Why do network students even need to have a teacher?"  Well I believe that no matter what the case is you always need a teacher for help or even support. As a teacher it is our job not only just to teach but to help show them how they can build their own network. I believe that when a student realizes that he or she can do something on their own it makes them fell so good about themselves.  But  even when they do realize they can do it on their own its still nice for them to know that they can turn to there teacher.

I know that when I do become a teacher I will teach my students how important technology really is. This class has opened my eyes up in so many different ways. Before this class i never new what podcasting was. This class has encouraged me in so many different ways. Before this class I would always think of ways I would get my students interested in their assignments. Now I know exactly how I'm going to do that. Technology Technology Technology!

A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment

The seventh grader did and amazing job on creating her PLE. When I first started watching the video I was like wow this young lady is in the seventh grade and has already created a PLE. I'm in college and just created my first PLN. I really did  enjoy watching and listening to how she created her PLE.  I also liked how she organized everything.  Such as her school work is located in one area and then in another area she had the things she liked to do outside of school. She did a great job showing others how to use and create a PLE.

Smart Board

Personally, I love the smart board. While reading Mr.Michael Staton's  post about the smart boards being something stupid and dumb. I have to disagree. Smart boards are the way of the future. Yes they are a little expensive but in my opinion they are well worth it. Smart boards are a great way to get students involved and interested in learning. The smart board is and amazing way for the teacher to be hands on with the students. I have talked to many teachers about how they fell about the smart board and they all say how much they love it. The link below i found to be extremly helpful. My friend from last semester suggested that I look at it.

Children Dressed Up

Eagles Nest Radio & Class Blog

When watching this video I was like “wow”. I learned more from the kids then I would have ever learned if I would have had to read it on my own. There was so much information about Ancient Rome.

I could not believe that this podcast was done by 3rd graders. I am twenty-two years old and I just id my first ever podcast and these child’s are like 8 and 9 years old and they are already ahead of me with technology. I listening to their podcast I got some really great ideas from them. I think that it’s amazing what Mrs. Edmison is doing with her student. I just wish I would have been given this amazing opportunity at such a young age.

The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom

When I first click on this video, I was a little bored with it. But ounce he started talking about a lot of the things that we are talking about in many of my education classes like blooms taxonomy.  I learned a lot of great ideas and some great benefits to having podcasts in the classroom. One that I really liked was using Podcasting for sick children. I know that I would not be the type of teacher that would upload every single activity, done in class but I think for test review days that Podcasting would be a must. This is an amazing way to keep the student up to date when he/ she is out.

The other thing that I like about Podcasting is that the parents are able to go online and see what their child did in class for that day. I believe that this really does come in handy for the parents because when a there child ask them for help that can go to the teachers podcast watch the video and then possible help their child with his/ her homework. I know that one day I will use Podcasting in my classrooms.  Because it’s a good way to get everyone involved.

Langwitches Blog

Mrs. Khur and Mrs. Tolisano are amazing women. The both  put further the effort and did an amazing job I think. From person experience podcasting is hard but once you get the hang of things it not so bad. I never new how important podcasting could be and also how helpful to the students and the parents.

In Lanwitches these two women do an amazing job at introducing new information to the students. They encourage them to us technology and learn how it can help you out in the end. I think that as a teacher its important to stay up to date on all the new technology. Not just for oursleves but for our students as well.

Triangle Red

Don't teach your kids this stuff. Please?

Mr. Scott McLeod is an associate professor and also a CASTLE director. Mr. McLeod is form Ames, Iowa. He posted this blog "Don't teach your kids this stuff. Please?"
When I began reading Mr. McLeod's post the first thing that came to mind was that he really dislikes technology.  When i finished it I realized that he that he did not hate technology but he hated the negative outcomes that come with technology. For example children can be on the internet thinking they are chatting with other teenagers  when they are really chatting with some fifty year old. Children can also become the victims of cyber bullying. Which I believe is the worst thing about technology. Because bullies will hide behind there computers and pick on other children and think they are so cool. I believe that Mr. McLeod wont's us as future educators to teach our students how to properly make us of computers. In life there are always good and bad but when you are taught properly how to use something you can do so much good with it.

The iSchool Initiative

Travis Allen is a high school senior he created this post entitled, "The iSchool Initiative". In his post he makes some very interesting posts when talking about the new steps into helping classrooms with advancement of technology. I believe that Travis did an amazing job on researching the information on all the different applications that are available. I also liked how he shows all the initiative that would help the environment and how this would also help school districts save tones of money in the long run. I believe that in the future that the iSchool will be introduced.

Lost Generation

When i first watched this video i was like wow.  While I was reading alone with the story I was horrified. Then when she begin reading the story backwards the two stories begin to tie into together. I thought it was amazing that you can take something that is is negative and then turn and have something positive.

In today's world there is always someone who is waiting to unleash all the negativities that this world has.  In her video family is extremely important and we should never let work or anything else come between it.

Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir and Jennifer Chamber's post

I found this video to be so amazing the people who were performing  the Lux Aurumque had never gotten together before to practice. I thought it was so amazing that the all learned the same from the internet. The sounds were so amazing, I would have never thought that something that sounded so amazing like this would have ever done without the use of technology. The other thing that amazes me is that these people were from all over the world and yet they still can create something that sounded so unbelievable.

Teaching in the 21st Century
 21st century

Being that this is the 21st century  everything revovles around technology. Technology is every where and it makes up just about everything. As future teachers we have to make sure that our students are using the computers properly. Its important to make sure that they know how important it is to use technology correctly. They must know that computers can be used as a positive and also a negative.

Before the 21st century technology was not everything it is today.  Students use to have to rely on the teachers for all the information they recieve. Now days students can get on the internet and find the information.  There can be tones of problems with this though. How many third graders know to look and see if the site that they are receiving the information from is correct. Because there are so many different sites out there that say so many different things.

C4T Project # 3

C4T  #1 - I was assigned to read Mr. Will Richardson's blog entitled "When's our Egypt Moment"

Pyramid

Mr. Richardson is an amazing blog he has been blogging for almost three years. My first comment was me telling Mr. Richardson what my name was and how I was in Dr. Strange's EDM310 class. I also said how I supported his blog and thought that yes there does need to be a change in education. Though Mr. Richardson did not comment back to my comment others did.

"When's our Egypt Moment" was about how education needs to change. This blog involved a lot of parents, who were worried about there child's education. Some people were extremely positive of this blog though there were a few who were not so supportive. Mr. Richardson's blog to me touched base on a lot of"  other things that are happening in our country's education.

C4T #2 Second Comment for my assigned Teacher. Blog title:  The 10,000 Parent Challenge

Clock

This blog was an extension on the conversation that took place last week. This was a some what heated discussion. Mr. Richardson makes some really good points. He continued his talk about change, an how we as parents can not grasp the idle of a higher education level.

In my post post I expressed how I felt about this topic. I believe that our education programs need to change for the better of our children . I also said that I feel that one day his story will come to life and others will see that a change needs  to be made and then that is when education will change for the better. Mr. Richardson did not comment back on this post but others did.

Micheal Wesch: A Vision of Student Technology

What I learned while watching this video is technology play's a big part in our lives today. Most of the time we as college students become so distracted in large parts to our computers, i pads, mp3 players and so on.  Many students use there laptops the whole time they are in class, watching the latest episodes of Jersey Shore or they are checking out there Facebook pages.

Watching this video I related myself to it. Because yes sometimes I am that student who is in class not listening to the teacher. Because I 'm checking my email or chatting with friends on Facebook. I know that it's an awful thing to do because school tuition is so expensive, and I'm there to learn no t be on Facebook. But the way I look at it as long as a get all my homework done and still make good grades. In college there are so many distractions with either friends , football, and Facebook.

Technology is both a positive and a negative for the average college student. The positive side of technology you can get the information you need quickly. The negative  so many students are consume with Facebook and Twitter. I believe that if they would devote as much time to there school work as they did there Facebook and Twitter.

Inconclusion technology is here, its an amazing tool that we has college students have at our finger tips. We should use it to better our academics not see what Marice in 3B is doing on Facebook.

Girl on Cell Phone

" It's Not about the Technology" is an article written by:Kelly W. Hines. In this article she gives a list of four things that every teacher must recognize, so they can better connect with there student's.

1.) Teachers Must Be Learners

I totally and completely agree with Mrs. Hines. I believe that teachers must always be up to date on all different kinds of technology. I believe that if the teacher is more technological informed, they can better introduce technology to there students. Technology is continusally changing and having to date with his/ her technology is great for the students.

2.) Learning and Teaching are not the Same Thing.

Mrs. Hines makes a great point in this article. Anyone can get up in front of people and tell them about how something works. But a teacher not only introduces new information but they show there students how to put it to greater use. Sometimes there are some students who do not quit understand the information. For those students you may have to spend more time with.

3.) Technology is Useless Without Good Teaching.

Again, I completely agree with Mrs. Hines. At USA so many teachers have amazing technology at their finger tips, but most of them wont even use it because they have no idea how. In two of my classes at USA with two different teachers neither one of them have any clue how to use it.  One of them has a smart board in the classroom and has to ask the students all the time what she needs to do. While another still uses the old school projector using hand made sidles. I believe that because they are so technological literate  that they are holding there students back. I just believe that is a schol has the equipment then you should put it to work.

4.) Be a 21st Century Teacher Without The Technology

Technology is so important. Its one of the most useful things in today's world. But years ago when they did not have all the technology we do today I wonder how the teachers introduced all the information to there students. I can only image.

Child On the Computer

Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically  Illiterate Teacher?

Mr. Fisch seems to be an amazing teacher. I agree with him when he says that we all should be learners to the entire technology world. As a future teacher I believe that we are suppose to teach our students as much as we can to help better themselves.  We can not just expect them to understand it on there own. Mr. Fisch said " If a teacher today is not technologically literate and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more- it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write"  This quote to me makes me wont to make sure that i take every advantage I can when it comes to technology.

When I first logged onto this page the number of comments made on Facebook was 1,485,635 within ten seconds the number was 1,908,551. Watching it I realized how technology is used in everything. Everyday technology is changing and this website just backs it up that much more.

Blog Post 2

1. Did you know? 3.0

I felt this video was very up to date with its current information about technology. It really amazed me at how much technology in the past ten years has changed. In today’s modern world we are so bet on technology for our everyday life. Computers control everything, cell phones help keep us in contact with everyone. In today’s world we are so dependent on technology. With out it who knows were we would be.

2. Mr. Winkle Wakes

This video had a lot of important facts about schools and teaching. Many of the facts made me realize that a lot of schools and teachers have yet to catch up to. In many Mobile public schools they do not have the technology available to them that in the future can help them out with there future jobs. Technology is a key in today’s world and without it who knows where we would be.

3. Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

Sir Ken Robinson’s video was extremely amazing he provided information that teachers can us so much in the future. He made it clear to me that art, drama, and music are just as important as English, math, science and social studies. In today’s schools creativity is everything. We as future teachers we should always encourage our students to always think outside the box and be creative.

4. Cecelia Gault Interview Sir Ken Robinson

In this video Sir Ken Robinson finds where the students strengths are and also there weaknesses. Its important to allow students to be creative, when they are focused the think outside of the box they become excited to learn. From then on they will be excited to learn.

5. Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students Digital Smarts

Ms. Davis class is so excited about learning. She has introduced learning to the students through different types of technology and has caused the students to be excited about learning. I think that it’s truly amazing how her class is able to connect with students all around the world and learn things about them from inside a classroom.
